I experimented with making sushi this past weekend, and used this set to do so. I used the rice paddle to turn and vinegar the rice, as recommended in "Sushi For Dummies." The mat made rolling the maki rolls a breeze - I was expecting it to be MUCH more difficult than it was. I would recommend that you purchase more than one mat if you are not making sushi alone. There were two of us and it would have been more fun (and productive) to each have a rolling mat.
Word of caution though: If you are making sushi for the first time, consult a reference other than the pamphlet included with this set. It is not detailed enough to use for a first sushi attempt!
